Compassion Value Statement

We Believe

...God cares deeply about the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of every person. Therefore, Christ has called us to compassionate service. Compelled by love to live out and proclaim the gospel of Jesus, the church is to care for one another and engage culture by bringing hope to all. We will address tangible needs by advocating for the defenseless, seeking justice for the downtrodden, and lifting up the downcast. Channeling our compassion toward His followers and sojourners alike, we are to be the embodiment the fearless love of the risen Christ (Matthew 14:15 – 21; Matthew 25:31-46; James 1:27).

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8 (NIV)

Compassion Ministry

At LFC we feel very passionately that we are to be the incarnational presence of Christ in our community and to the world.  Jesus was God incarnate, He took a bodily form and became like His creation.  He moved into the neighborhood and spoke our language.

In turn we feel that it is the call of every Christian to live incarnationally.  This means that "put on" Jesus and represent Him by focusing on being His hands and feet in our world.

We seek to do this through two primary means, Mercy and Justice.

Mercy

We consider Mercy Ministry to be anything that offers temporary relief to an immediate need.  It is an immediate compassionate response of the heart.  This may include any of the following or other merciful actions:

  • A meal for a family going through a difficult time
  • Providing material goods for a family in need
  • Delivering food hampers
  • Driving a community member to a doctor's appointment
  • Visiting a widow or someone in a long term care facility

We don't expect to change the world through these actions, but we do hope to become good news to someone in need of good news.

Justice

While Mercy may provide temporary help, Justice Ministry requires a greater level of personal and corporate investment.  Justice focuses on both an increased awareness and an intentional sustaining effort to confront a more global presence of need, such as orphan crisis, the need for clean water, or the issue of hunger or inadequate food supply whether in our own backyard or around the world.

Here are a few of the projects that we as a community take part in with regard to Justice:

We also serve the greater Kingdom work of justice through the support of a number of globally sent missionaries:
